Tokyo
Tokyo is the capital and largest city of Japan. Tokyo is the city with the greatest population in the world. The Emperor of Japan lives in Tokyo and it is where you will find the government of Japan situated. Tokyo is situated on the southeastern side of the main island of Honshu. This capital city used to known as Edo and has been the capital of Japan since 1868 when the Emperor Meiji moved there from Kyoto, which used to be the capital city. Tokyo used to be a fishing village.

Tokyo is Japan’s number one place of business. . Chiba, Yokohama and Kawasaki are the main industrial areas, however the centre of Tokyo city is mostly electronics and book printing.
Importantly, Tokyo is Japan’s financial centre. This is where you will find most of the banking and finance companies, and are mostly found in areas such as Otemachi and Marunouchi. In the 1980’s that the economic boom hit Japan and it became a very important part of world finance. . The value of the Yen increased and land became more valuable. Real estate in Tokyo stayed at a very high rate until Japan was hit by a recession. Japan is only just starting to really recover from this. Japan is one of the world's largest exporters and importers. Japan imports raw materials which it then makes into products to export. It mostly imports petroleum, clothing, liquid natural gas and audio and visual machinery. Its imports are worth US$ 856.9 billion. Japan's most important exports include motor vehicles and iron, steel and plastic products. Japan’s exports are valued at US$792.9 billion |
